Understanding Your SmartGrid

  • What is a SmartGrid and how do they work?

The SNRG SmartGrid is a private wire microgrid with intelligent energy storage and optimisation, and is designed as a communal energy system. All rooftop solar PV, funded and installed by SNRG, is connected to the private wire network, allowing every home to benefit from the power generated across the entire development, not just from the panels on their own roof. Excess solar energy is stored in a centrally managed communal battery, also funded by SNRG, for later use. Since the microgrid operates behind a single boundary meter, assets can be centrally controlled, optimising energy use by minimising peak demand and maximising the consumption of locally generated, low-cost, low-carbon electricity. This setup provides residents with a resilient, low-cost energy solution while reducing their carbon footprint and reliance on the National Grid.

  • How do I switch suppliers or disconnect from the SmartGrid?

If you would like to switch to another supplier please contact the Customer Support Team, who will explain the process which SNRG will facilitate in accordance with our statutory duties as supplier and network operator, as detailed in our Third Party Access Terms, provided that you notify us and have paid all charges and other sums due from you to us in accordance with your contract with us.

  • Who is the regulator for Private Wire Networks?

There is no government appointed regulator for Private Wire Networks. The government is instead supporting industry-led initiatives to improve consumer protections and technical standards.

However, Private Wire Networks are governed by law, in particular the Energy Act.
